Finally, the “Quick Draw"

This is the culmination of the week.  Every painter lines up between El Tovar and the Bright Angel Trailhead.  Locations are scrutinized and chosen days ahead.  We’ll start painting at 8 a.m. and stop at 10 a.m.  Paintings must be framed, so we all carry our framing equipment in our vehicles.  Then they are placed on display in the auction tent where participants view them and anticipate which they might bid on.  I’ve walked up and down this portion of the rim and decided to paint Isis Temple with some chamisa in the foreground.  This is how it looks at about 7 a.m., one hour before we start painting.  © Dawn Sutherland  2017
